Our Volunteers in Action

SHARE has many generous donors and supporters in the McLean area.   On this page, we want to highlight some of the special projects that groups and organizations have sponsored to help our neighbors in need.  Please visit our Facebook page for many more examples of our community volunteers in action:  https://www.facebook.com/ShareOfMclean

Share's Clothing Room

Visitors to Share’s clothing pantry are greeted with a meticulously organized room featuring racks of clothing sorted by gender and age. What may not be immediately apparent is the dedicated effort of eight volunteers who invest countless hours to ensure the room maintains this pristine appearance. This team inspects every donation to determine if it is soiled, stained, or out of season.

Because there is limited space, only items that are in good condition and appropriate for the season are available in the clothing room. Unusable items are directed to Amvets; high quality out-of-season clothing is stored for future use; and upscale fashion items are sold to consignment shops to generate funds for clothing room needs.

A very warm thanks to all our committed volunteers who come in weekly to make the Clothing Room look so amazing!  And, while we sincerely appreciate the generous donations from our community, we request that only gently used, seasonal clothing be donated. Items such as used lingerie, sleepwear, suits, and ties are not in demand by our clients.  However, we gratefully accept new underwear and socks for any gender or age.

Back to School Supplies Distributed

Back-to-School Volunteers.jpg

The distribution of Back-to-School supplies ended on Saturday, August 19, 2023 just in time for school to start on Monday. The last day was also festive with our long-term partners from the McLean Baptist Church providing food, music, and information about Free English classes and “Read me a Story” educational videos.

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with planning, organizing, registering, and distributing supplies for this year’s BTS event.

More than "A Simple Gesture"
Temple Rodef.jpg

Thank you, Temple Rodef Shalom members Marsha and Sandy, who started A Simple Gesture, a bi-monthly neighborhood collection program of non-perishable food and toiletries from 100+ local families.  So far this year, A Simple Gesture has donated over 6,400 pounds of food to Share!

A special shout-out to A Simple Gesture’s assistant, Noah, who always helps collect, deliver, and organize the donations.

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

Many thanks to our local (22101) National Association of Letter Carriers for its annual Stamp Out Hunger drive on May 13, 2023.  Over 80 bags of food were collected. We appreciate your hard work and dedication to stamping out hunger in our community!

Langley Students Dance for Share

Each year, the Langley High School Leadership Club and Student Government Association (SGA) select several charities for their donations. This year, the class unanimously voted to dedicate all the proceeds from a winter dance to Share. Share volunteers were surprised and delighted when we received their very generous donation.

Special thanks to Sandra Hamilton, Kiersten Conrad, Peyton Walcott and Brady Quinn for their efforts.

Power Packs for Kids

Thanks to Debra Brosius and Integrated Psychology Associates of McLean for their generous donation of Power Packs! Many local children have little to eat between their Friday lunch and Monday breakfast meals provided at school. Power Packs help ensure that kids don’t go hungry on weekends. We gave Power Packs to students during our August 2023 Back-to-School distribution period. Thanks for making a difference!

Feminine Products Drive

Share would like to thank Amelia Egan and the Girls’ Leadership Committee at McLean High School for hosting a feminine hygiene product drive recently. We are always in need of these supplies and your generous donation was much appreciated.

Spring Gift Bags Provide a Nice Surprise

We are grateful to our new partners at Christ Central Tysons for distributing generous toiletry gift bags for clients on Saturday, April 1, 2023.  The gift bags included shampoo, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, and shaving supplies.  Also included were sandwiches, fruit, and pastries from Panera.

A special thanks to Theresa Nam and Euna Kang for organizing the project.
