Who does Share serve?
The Furniture program provides furniture free of charge to our neighbors in need many of whom have moved from shelters to subsidized apartments. They need basic furnishings such as beds, dressers, tables and chairs, and living room furniture suitable for small apartments. We only require that a social worker or church worker make a referral to confirm that the recipient cannot afford to buy furniture.
Waiting List
Share maintains a waiting list for pick-ups and deliveries. We generally cannot pick up on short notice. We rely solely on volunteer drivers and helpers. If you are moving and have multiple items suitable for our recipients, please contact us.
Volunteer
Share urgently needs volunteers to help move furniture. Each Saturday,
volunteers meet at our trucks parked at St. Luke Catholic Church in McLean. On a typical day, the team will make 5-7 stops to collect and deliver furniture.
Want to volunteer and work from home? Furniture schedulers respond to pick-up and delivery requests to prepare a delivery schedule for the Saturday movers. Please email Randy (randy@shareofmclean.org)

Donate Furniture
If you reside in the Share service area (McLean, Falls Church and Arlington), we will pick up furniture that is in good condition from your home free of charge. Share drivers and helpers are volunteers and they are available only on Saturdays, typically between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
Share accepts basic furniture items in good condition suitable for a small apartment. We do not accept over-sized or heavy furniture, decorative items or items with glass. See list below for more details.
To schedule a free pick up of furniture, please complete our donor form. Please include photos of the items. A volunteer will contact you to schedule a pick-up.

PLEASE NOTE: SHARE can only accept furniture that is clean, free of pet hair, and does not require repairs or refinishing. Furniture that has prominent stains, rips, or scratches will be refused. Keep in mind that our clients have small rooms or apartments and the hallways may be narrow.
Acceptable items

Bedroom: Twin (regular size not XL), full-size, and queen mattresses, box springs, simple metal bedframes, dressers (maximum 72 inches), chest of drawers; night stands. Mattresses must be clean and have no rips or stains and weigh less than 75 lbs.

Living Room: Sofas (maximum 86" L x 37" H x 36" D), loveseats, lightweight recliners, living room chairs, coffee tables, end tables, lamps, small tv stands, small bookcases with fixed shelves.

Dining Room and Kitchen: dining tables (maximum 60 inches), dining chairs, counter height chairs and bar stools, small storage cabinets

Small computer desks or children's desks
Unacceptable items

Sofa-beds, futons, oversized chairs

King-size beds, XL twins, wood bedframes, headboards and footboards

Large desks/metal desks, armoires, hutches, entertainment centers, bookcases

Refrigerators, large appliances, exercise equipment.

Glass table tops, cabinets with glass doors, glassware, china cabinets or hutches

Dishes, pots and pans, utensils and small appliances. (These can be taken to the storage bins at the McLean Baptist Church)

Sheets, comforters, bedspreads (These can be taken to the storage bins at the McLean Baptist Church)

Wicker, wrought iron or patio furniture

Sheets, towels, dishes, pots and pans, kitchen utensils and small appliances. These items are hard to manage and store on our delivery trucks. They can be dropped off at the Food Pantry on Wed and Sat mornings or left in the storage bins outside the McLean Baptist Church.
