  • The Furniture program provides furniture free of charge to our neighbors struggling to furnish their homes as a result of poverty or significant life challenges.

  • Many of our neighbors in need who are beneficiaries of our furniture program have moved from homeless shelters to subsidized apartments and they need basic furnishings such as beds, tables and chairs.

  • Recycling your gently used furniture helps preserve the environment and helps a family in need.

  • Many furniture donations are tax deductible!

I need furniture

Neighbors in need in McLean, Falls Church, and Arlington who cannot afford essential furniture can get help from Share.  We only require that a social worker or church worker call the furniture hotline to confirm that the recipient cannot afford to buy furniture.  Share gives priority to families with children and people who have no furniture or no beds.

To request furniture, call 703-448-1054 and leave a message in English or Spanish or, preferably, ask a county social worker or church worker to call on your behalf.

I want to volunteer

Share urgently needs volunteers to help move furniture. Each Saturday, six volunteers in two trucks will make 5-6 stops to collect and deliver furniture. We are looking for volunteers who can move furniture one Saturday per month.

Please email Stew Lingley at slingley@aol.com if you are interested in volunteering as a mover.

Volunteers also serve as Furniture Schedulers who work from home to match the needs of recipients with available furniture donations and to schedule pick-ups and deliveries of furniture.

Please complete our volunteer interest form if you are interested in volunteering as a scheduler.

I want to donate furniture

If you reside in the Share service area (McLean, Falls Church and Arlington), we will pick up furniture that is in good condition from your home and move it free of charge.  Share drivers and helpers are volunteers and they are available only on Saturdays, typically between 9:00 and 1:00.

Share is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and will provide a receipt at the time of pick up. Your donations may be tax deductible.

To schedule a free pick up of furniture, please call Share at 703-448-1054 and leave a message with the following information:  name, address, phone number, and a description of items you want to donate.  A Furniture Program volunteer will contact you to schedule a pick-up.

PLEASE NOTE:  SHARE can only accept furniture that is clean, free of pet hair, and does not require repairs or refinishing.  Furniture that has prominent stains, rips, or scratches will be refused.

Keep in mind that our clients have small rooms or apartments and the hallways may be narrow.   Furniture must be suitable for a small apartment or efficiency.
