Next Meeting - Share’s next general meeting will be 7:30 pm, Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 1125 Seville Lane (next to the CIA), McLean. This meeting will feature a presentation by the dynamic Suzette Steinhardt, president of Family PASS, a non-profit organization offering in-depth support of needy families working toward economic self-sufficiency. Her presentation will describe their program and include an update on the progress of the five families Share has sponsored into their in depth support activities. Please plan to attend and bring a friend for what we are sure will be an interesting and informative presentation.
Report from the February Board Meeting - At our February meeting of Share’s board of directors we decided to reschedule our appreciation dinner, which was to have been held in January, but was cancelled due to inclement weather. We now plan to hold this event on April 23 at St. Luke Catholic Church.

At the board meeting we were pleased to learn that donations are back on course within our budget for this fiscal year. Also, congratulations to Julie Mendoza, who was successful in obtaining a $2,500 grant from the 495 Express Lanes organization to extend water lines in the community garden at Lewinsville Park. This will enable more fresh produce to be grown for Share’s food pantry.
Schedule for the next few months - We plan a next meeting of the board of directors on April 4, 2013 to propose a slate of officers for terms beginning in July 1, 2013  (FY 2014), as well as a FY 2014 budget. These items will be voted upon by our membership at our May meeting.  Hunter Pollitt has agreed to lead the budget work group, and Randy Glantz will head our nomination committee. Any board member or officers interested in serving on these two work groups over the next month should contact Vic Kimm, at 703-356-8451.
Volunteer Needs -  Share is seeking to fill the following  volunteer positions:

Share’s food committee needs several new members. This important volunteer activity helps our food pantry meet its ongoing needs for donations. The duties are: get involved in planning and staffing food drives at local grocery stores; and serve as a liaison to area schools and other local organizations to encourage and coordinate food drives. Share’s treasurer needs someone to help prepare thank-you letters to our donors.  These letters serve as a receipt for tax purposes and as expressions of our appreciation for their interest and support. The task requires knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and is done from your own home with your own computer and printer at times that are convenient to the volunteer. (The letters are not hand written!) During most of the year only a few hours a month are required, but during high donation periods the time requirement will be higher. Share’s transportation program needs drivers to take senior citizens and other clients to medical appointments in Northern Virginia on weekdays.  For more information and to volunteer contact Marianna Garrett at

Share’s furniture program is seeking additional volunteers to help move furniture. Each Saturday our two trucks pick up donated items and deliver them to needy families. Since we do not handle major appliances, large entertainment centers or sofa beds, volunteers need be in reasonable health but are not likely to be asked to move more than one end of a sofa up one or two floors of stairs. Typically we work from 8:30 am to 1 pm and volunteers are only asked to come out once every two months. If you might be interested call Vic Kimm, at 703-356-8451 for a no-obligation ride along. This is a great opportunity to see the actual living conditions of the poor in our area and an opportunity for father and son teams.
