Holding a Food Drive

Individuals, civic associations, schools, and corporations organize their own food drive on behalf of Share.  Please see how to Hold a Drive.

Holiday Season Donations

  • Donate grocery store gift cards to help supply holiday meals for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.
  • Fulfill a wish by providing a client a requested gift or gift card in early December.  Contact Sharewishes@gmail.com.
Share conducts special events to support clients of the Food Pantry.   These include the School Supply Program, Grocery gift cards for holiday meals, and the Holiday Celebration in December.  In addition, Share and its community sponsors hold food drives to supply the Food Pantry throughout the year.School Supply Program– During FY2014, Share provided almost $7,000 of school supplies and gift cards to 166 students in Kindergarten through college.  Share provides a backpack to every student and each elementary school child with the specific school supplies required by his grade and school.  Middle, high school, and college students receive basic supplies and a gift card to purchase necessary supplies.  Volunteers are needed at the end of July and in early August to help organize, shop, and box supplies.  Donations from individuals and faith communities, as well as grants from institutions, help fund the School Supply Program.

Grocery Gift Cards for Holiday Meals– Each Thanksgiving, the Holiday Celebration in December and in the Spring, Share distributes grocery gift cards to clients to purchase food for their holiday meal.  220 families, comprised of more than 600 household members, received gift cards in 2014.  To contribute, you could purchase grocery gift cards in $25 increments and drop them off at the McLean Baptist Church, mail a check to Share, or make a credit card donation by clicking the “Donate Funds” button to the right.

Holiday Celebration– Donors “fulfill a wish” for a client during the holiday season.  Last year, Share provided over 230 families including more than 650 family members with donated gifts at a holiday party, which included a visit by Santa Claus.  Clients received a gift from their wish list, a grocery gift card and a sturdy laundry basket filled with personal toiletries (these necessities cannot be purchased with SNAP coupons).  Client’s wishes include gift cards, small household items, linens, clothing, or toys valued between $25-$50.   Email Sharewishes@gmail.com to receive a specific wish made by a Share client.

Food drives–  Help us stock the Share Food Pantry.  Share relies entirely on donations of food and household supplies to provide more than 900 large bags of groceries per month to our clients.  To help replenish the sometimes empty shelves, Share periodically holds food drives in front of local grocery stores.  Student participation counts toward community service requirements.  Volunteers are required to bring a signed release form with them– see link at right.
